Fields of Interest

Atmospheric chemistry; aerosol physics and chemistry; gas-to-particle conversion; organic aerosols; soot aerosols; coastal aerosols; aircraft and ground-based field measurements; simultaneous measurement of aerosols and trace gases; development of real-time quantitative aerosol instrumentation; quantitative aerosol mass spectrometry; tunable diode laser spectroscopy; combustion emissions characterization and reduction; health effects of aerosols

Description of Scientific Projects

Some current projects in my group include: (1) Measurement of size-resolved composition in ground-based field studies using an Aerodyne Aerosol Mass Spectrometer (AMS) (e.g. Mexico City Spring 2003, Amazon Rainforest Fall 2003). (2)Measurement of size-resolved composition in aircraft-based field studies using an Aerodyne Aerosol Mass Spectrometer (AMS). E.g. likely participation in the NASA Intercontinental Transport Experiment (INTEX-NA) in the Summer of 2004. (3) Smog chamber experiments of gas-to-particle conversion processes in the laboratory. (4) Development of new instrumentation to address current "blind spots" in the measurement of size-resolved aerosol composition. See my web page at http://cires.colorado.edu/jimenez for details, or email me at <jose.jimenez@colorado.edu> if you have any questions. Current as of 12/16/2002
