Fields of Interest

ocean circulation modeling and theory, meso- to global scale air-sea interactions, mesoscale data asssimilation, coupled physical- biogeochemical ecosystem modeling

Description of Scientific Projects

Computer models of ocean circulation and ocean-atmosphere interaction are important tools for advancing our understanding of the world ocean and climate change. These become even more powerful when properly and formally combined with geophysical fluid dynamics theory and the large observed database that the ocean and climate communities continue to actively collect. Our group has expertise with many of the well established physical models commonly used in the oceanographic community, as well as with meso- to global scale physical models that we have developed ourselves. And we are presently coupling these physical models with biogeochemical models in an attempt to create the next level of ecosystem models to study the role of regional - to - global physical climate change in ecosystem evolution. Current numerical modeling investigations within our group cover a wide range of geography, and space and time scales.
